40% of the Food We Buy Goes to Waste! You've Gotta Be Kidding!

| January 24, 2011

I have just heard a reporter on MSNBC say that forty percent of the food we buy goes to waste. That is a huge percentage, especially now as the prices on many of our basic food staples, such as sugar, grain and oilseeds have risen for the sixth month in a row! [See Bloomberg article]. These price rises affect a lot of other foods as staples like grain and sugar are used in the manufacturing of so many other foods, like bread for instance. Think that wasting forty percent of our food is is sustainable? You’ve gotta be kidding!
